Welcome to Snowmass Village
A charming village set among a high-intensity natural playground
Ten minutes from Downtown Aspen, Snowmass Village delivers something rare: world-class skiing without the world knowing about it. The village has an unhurried, resort-like feel — big mountain scenery, exceptional terrain, and a community that actually knows its neighbors.
The story starts in 1967, when former Olympic ski racer Bill Janss set out to recreate the intimate ski villages he'd experienced in the Alps. The vision was simple — weave lodging, community, and adventure into one place. More than 50 years later, it's become exactly that: a four-season family destination with a refreshingly down-to-earth character that's harder to find in Aspen proper.
Inventory here is naturally constrained. National forest land surrounds much of the village, which keeps the footprint tight and demand steady. What's available tends to run the range from modern luxury homes to condominiums across a wide price spectrum — making Snowmass one of the more accessible entry points into the Roaring Fork Valley without sacrificing any of the lifestyle.

People & Lifestyle
Here's the refresh:
People & Lifestyle
Snowmass attracts a certain type. Active, unpretentious, and genuinely oriented around the outdoors — not just for the weekends, but as a way of life. With terrain like this outside your door, it's hard to justify staying in. The landscape shapes everything here: how people spend their time, how neighbors interact, and what the community values.
The village skews young for a mountain town — median resident age of 37 — and families are the dominant demographic among homeowners. It's intimate by design, and that's the point. People choose Snowmass because they want the mountain lifestyle without the scene that comes with it.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Snowmass Base Village is the main hub of the village. Full of shopping, dining, and entertainment, this area is the place to be—during breaks from the slopes, of course.
Snowmass Mall is a one-stop-shop for outdoor gear and supplies, locals produce and boutiques, and hand-crafted art and souvenirs. If you’re looking for more high-end shopping, Downtown Aspen is a short drive away with many name-brand retailers.
We’ve all got to eat, and Snowmass has that covered! Enjoy handmade Italian from Il Poggio or Mexican cuisine from Venga Venga and Kenichi for sushi and Pan-Asian cuisine. Don’t miss out on Lynn Britt Cabin’s “authentic Western ambiance” with a mix of elegance if you’re looking for a charming and intimate experience.
Things To Do
While snow and skiing are the dominant Snowmass ideals, the community is full of year-round activities. Located near over 40 miles of trails for biking and hiking, there’s never a shortage of outdoor adventure.
Snowmass has many annual events, including the Snowmass Rodeo—the longest-running rodeo in Colorado. There’s also the free summer concert series that takes place every Thursday night that includes activities for kids and beer and wine for parents. Aspen’s Jazz Festival also comes around every Labor Day weekend.
Snowmass Mountain is one of the “Power of Four” ski areas, creating a natural playground for residents. Check out the Nordic Ski Trails if the slopes aren’t your style. If you’re looking for warmer weather activities, Sky Mountain Park offers great opportunities for biking and hiking through incredibly scenic landscapes. Snowmass Lanes & Lounge is a great way to switch things up a bit!
